To any school child in Duluth, this fact isn’t all that new considering the modern Duluth Pledge of Allegiance that all students are required to recite every day before class.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands,
and to all the Duluth millionaires at the turn of the century,
who made us have the most per capita in this one Nation under God,
with liberty and justice for all.
But what you may not know is all these millionaires weren’t here because of the booming iron industry as you may expect. The facts are stranger than the truth!
As it turns out, all the millionaires who live in Duluth were because of one man: J.B.B. Bruster. Although no one knows how wealthy he was, Mr. Bruster was well beyond a being a mere millionaire. His favorite hobby was to collect millionaires! As his collection grew larger and larger, he was responsible for creating much of the buildings downtown for his collection to play in.
Now that’s a fact!
